Princess and Duh

I started a new job 3 weeks ago. It’s in a store at the airport as a Supervisor. I’m supposed to go to Gateway airport in Mesa, but I’m still at Sky Harbor. It’s a long drive, but I like the people I’ve been working with…mostly. A week after I started, 3 other people started training, 2 of which, Dustin and Gina, were hired to go to Gateway with me. They both suck.

This was their 1st week on the floor. Here’s how it went:
Dustin walked around aimlessly when he wasn’t ringing people up and Bryan and I had to keep telling him things to do, like fold the shirts that were unfolded which he walked passed 3 times! This is retail, not rocket science! How hard is it to pick up a shirt that’s unfolded and fold it?! Bryan and I were so annoyed by the end of the night we wanted to strangle him! Like myself, Dustin was hired as a Supervisor under the pretense that he can self-motivate and work without supervision. Clearly he is not capable of this. Additionally, our asst mgr asked all of us to count the over-stock because inventory was the next day. She asked Dustin to count everything in a particular closet and the jewelry. He ‘completed’ all of this in 15 minutes. There was no way he could have counted everything in that short amount of time, unless he was rain man and he’s not. Bryan and I recounted everything the following day. We’re not sure where some of his numbers came from. I personally think he just made them up. Bryan thinks Dustin just can’t count.

Gina was very anxious during training and asked a myriad of irrelevant questions. Her 1st shift was in the morning, so when I went in at 1pm I asked her how her 1st day was going. She responded with ok but a little nerve racking trying to get used to the register. Normal reaction on the first day, however, sometime after this she completely flipped out. When she returned from lunch she informed everyone that she was not supposed to be on the register today and that her husband told her to find someone in charge and ‘tattle’. She poked my assistant manager, Dawn in the chest saying she(asst mgr) didn’t know what she was doing and that she(Gina) was going to find Sandy or Glenn to tell on her. (Sandy is our HR person at the airport and Glenn is the GM). *side note- my asst mgr is the sweetest little old lady.* After Gina spoke to everyone possible, she stood behind Peggy for the remainder of her shift then she went home. This was a whirlwind event happening in a matter of minutes. It literally happened so fast I had no idea what was going on ‘til after it was over.

The whole point to the 1st week on the floor is to be on the register. If you can’t use the register, you can’t do your job. Period. So Peggy, Bryan and I nicknamed Gina “princess”. I personally nicknamed Dustin “duh”. Princess called out yesterday and no call no showed today so she’s officially gone. *happy dance* Duh, unfortunately is still around. My partner-in-crime Andrew, text me today about Duh. Andrew hadn’t met him before today.

Text from Andrew: I saw Dustin today for the first time…He wasn’t there 5 minutes and he was already making them mad (them being Peggy and Dawn)
Me: Lol…what was he doing? I bet nothing , as usual
Andrew: They brought up a bunch of stuff from storage and we were putting it out and he came in at 2 and started straightening what was already out instead of helping put out what was brought up
Me: Typical. I just know I’m going to end up punching him :-/
Andrew: that would be fun to see…lol
Me: I’ll try to get it on video

I’ve made it my mission to get rid of this kid. I’ve become quite good at getting people to quit or get fired. Yes, I take pride in this.

Miscellaneous things that happened: worked 6 days in a row, saw a naked guy in the parking garage, my driver-side window came off it's track again, found out my phone does not recognize 'whore' as a word and changes it to 'shore', and still have no definitive answer on when I'm officially going to Gateway.

New readers

I recently became aware that people are actually reading my blogs. (Why?) Some of you I know, some of you I'm acquainted with through various social-networking sites and I'm sure there are people I don't know, reading what I write. It occurred to me that I should write a disclaimer for those of you who don't know me or my personality. This also serves as a reminder to those of you who know me well.

"I take no responsibility if I write about you and your feelings get hurt! So read at your own risk!"

Most of you know that I generally lack subtly and anything I may write about you, I've probably already said to your face. If I haven't, I will.
